To be clear, THIS is how nights of the future should be lit

This is bat friendly street lighting, which not only looks sick as fuck but allows bats to pass through without disturbance, as they cannot see red.

orange and especially white lights deter bats and prevent them from reaching feeding grounds at nighttime. Please if you can, write to your local council and encourage red street lights!!!!

they are installing those bright ass LED white lights on my street in front of my house is now lit up like a goddamn football stadium and i fucking hate it so much eveeyone on the street hates it there are so many angry old people who are pissed about being forced to buy black out curtains its so fucking stupid what was wrong with the warm lighting if its about the bulbs being more energy efficient then just PUT A FUCKING PLASTIC COVER ON THE LIGHT TO DIM IT no joke im about 2 steps away from climbing up there myself and duct taping a colored plastic bag over it

One thing that pisses me off is people seeing fish in aquariums (the establishments, not home aquariums) and being like “It’s so sad because the ocean is so big and the tank is so small and they’ll never know freedom blah blah blah-“ I’m not talking about sharks and marine mammals here but the majority of fish are not at all bothered by being in an aquarium instead of the open ocean. Like, I personally would love to be a little clown fish in one of those big reef tanks. Fed regularly. Whole team of people monitoring my health and well-being. No predators. Medicated if I show signs of illness. Aquarium fish have cushy gigs in comparison to their wild companions.

I saw someone say this about a blue lobster that was wild caught and brought to an aquarium. Like dude. It’s a lobster. They’re solitary sedentary creatures. They live in little crevices and they don’t move from them often. They abhor other creatures. Also, this lobster is distinctly bad at being a lobster because it is bright neon blue. I don’t think he’s yearning for the open sea. He’s probably yearning for his next mussel. Which is, coincidentally, the same thing he’d be doing if he wasn’t in an aquarium.

one thing that does bother me at aquariums though is when the overall state of their corals is heartbreaking dead or dying ones left and right like.. come on now last time i went to shedd in chicago i think they must have been having some kind of serious red algae bloom it was clearly doing some real damage to a LOT of their corals in their marine systems as someone who worked in a coral farm for a little while i do know what an unhappy coral looks like and their hard corals were really not doing good overall... i hope theyre doing better now it can be hard to tend to those on such a large scale so i get it i do a lot of corals are finicky especially hard corals. soft corals like bubble coral are of course way easier lol but sometimes you cant place corals too close to one another either bc they WILL FIGHT and kill each other off and i did see a bit of that happening in some spots too which was surprising to me but yeah no as long as most small fish have enough space to do their normal thing they will be fine like there are of course tank sizes you should consider too small but?? most fish on the reefs dont roam very far from their homes they pick out a nice crevice or anemone or what have you and they stay near it and defend it if they have to
